Our Flight Suite

The flight suite is our newest facility boasting 17 networked computers, complete with joysticks and headsets. They all run Microsoft Windows XP and come loaded with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 and Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator. The facility was opened on the 13th of June 2008 by Sir Desmond Swayne, MP. The fact that the computers are networked allows us to have WWI dogfights on a regular basis as well as teaching the cadets how to fly circuits and run ATC.

We also fly in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 with a wide verity of addition aircraft. In this program cadets complete the challenges as well as flying together attempting aerobatic displays in the multiplayer. The flight suite also doubles as an IT suite where cadets and staff can prepare lectures and carry out research on the internet. There are also additional games and quizzes that cadets can play as well as browsing through all the photos from events that are stored at the squadron. There are also activities such as aircraft recognition powerpoints.

The flight suite began construction after raising money at a Christmas bag pack in December 2006. This gave us the funding to buy the tables, chairs, joysticks and headsets needed. The computers were donated by The Mountbatten School. Then began what would end up being over a years work to set up all of the computers. Eventually everything was ready and now 18 months after we started we have a superb facility which the cadets love. Special thanks go to Chris Overton and Nick Walton, without which this project would not have been possible.
